Database Repair & Optimisation
Database corruption is alarming and usually recoverable. Bloat is less alarming and often the reason a site feels slow no matter how much caching you add.

Symptoms I see with this.
If any of these describe what you're looking at, this is the right fix. If you're not sure, describe it and I'll point you at the right one.
- 'Table is marked as crashed and should be repaired'
- Queries timing out or the site intermittently erroring
- Admin area extremely slow while the front end is acceptable
- Database size far larger than the content justifies
- Backups failing or taking hours
What usually causes it.
In roughly the order I check them. Knowing the likely causes is what makes a fix fast rather than exploratory.
Unclean shutdown or crash
A server restart mid-write, or a disk-full condition, corrupts table indexes. Repair usually restores everything, and it is worth finding why it crashed.
Autoloaded options bloat
Plugins storing large values as autoloaded options means every single page load reads megabytes of data it does not need. A very common and easily fixed cause of general slowness.
Runaway transients or logs
Expired transients, plugin log tables or revision history growing to hundreds of megabytes. Harmless-looking and genuinely expensive.
Missing indexes
Custom or plugin tables queried without an index. Fine at a thousand rows, crippling at a million.
What the job includes.
- Full backup taken before any repair work
- Table repair and integrity verification
- Autoloaded options audited and reduced
- Transients, orphaned data and log bloat cleared safely
- Missing indexes added where queries need them
- Before/after size and query timing comparison
- 14-day correction guarantee
Questions, answered.
Is my data at risk during repair?
A full backup is taken first, always. Repair operations are well-established, and the backup means even an unexpected outcome is recoverable.
How much can cleanup actually speed things up?
It varies. Where autoloaded options or a huge transients table are the problem, the improvement in admin responsiveness can be dramatic. Where they are not, cleanup helps modestly and I will tell you that rather than overselling it.
Will this stop it happening again?
Partly — clearing bloat and adding indexes helps, and preventing recurrence usually means changing whichever plugin is generating the data. I identify the source, not just the symptom.
